What happens when an Alpha takes a mate who might one day succeed him?

Sochar has spent his whole life admiring Gareth, his Alpha. For his part, Gareth has known from first sight that Sochar is his ves’tacha – lifelong mate, lover – and he’s been waiting for Sochar to come into his own and demand Gareth’s attention. When it finally happens, both werewolves indulge in their love and demand that the Pack accept things the way they are; after all, Gareth is the Alpha.

Everything is wonderful, to begin with, all shared hunting, loving and tail-chasing, but Sochar is moving into his prime, and the Pack is always looking for the next Alpha who will keep them strong. Can Gareth and Sochar survive if the pack looks to Sochar to fight Gareth for the position?
