Book Day Wednesday

Today I have re-published Beginning to Believe as a self-pub. This was originally in the anthology Bus Stories and Other Tales. It was also briefly available as a stand alone story like it is now.

Tyler’s a fun-loving, surfing mechanic who loves his life and lives every day to the fullest. When he meets potential client Kit, he’s immediately attracted and ready to get to know the man better.

Kit’s a music producer who used to do the singing himself. He was quite the star, actually, until an accident in his tour bus took whipped out nearly his entire band. Kit didn’t come out it unscathed, though. Along with emotional scars, he lost both legs and hasn’t sung a note since.

Tyler’s more concerned with how Kit makes him feel than whether or not the man has artificial limbs, and he pursues Kit eagerly. Can Tyler help Kit to believe in love again?

Excerpt:

Tyler whistled along to the Eagles on KFOX, hands full of grease as he cleaned out the engine on a '59 Triumph TR6. She hadn't been well treated, but with a whole lot of TLC, she was coming along nicely. Maybe too nicely to sell.

He interrupted his whistling to chuckle. He was going to go broke if he kept keeping the beauties. He had the front and back doors open, a nice breeze coming in off the ocean, keeping the place cool.

As the chorus of the song came on, he sang along with it. "Take it easy... take it easy...."

He made it to the end of the chorus when he heard someone clear his throat. He looked up at a guy in jeans and a t-shirt, eyes shadowed by a ball cap. Dude looked clean-cut as hell, little brown beard and moustache trimmed, no hair peeking from the hat. "Evenin'. Jim at the Kawasaki dealership said I should come here and ask for a Tyler if I had questions about a bike."

"Well, cool, I'll have to thank him for the referral." He got up and grabbed the rag out of his pocket, rubbing off some of the grease. "I'm Tyler. What can I do you for?"

"Kit." He got a nod, the voice surprisingly southern, classy. "Pleased to meet you. I'm hunting a bike that is damned stable, that doesn't fall over easily."

"You looking for a particular brand, or just the stability factor?"

"Just the stability, really." Kit shrugged and gave him a grin. "It's just something I've always wanted -- a motorcycle, that is -- and I figured I'd see what my options are."

He nodded, impressed. Most guys came in and didn't like to admit they needed help and knew nothing about bikes. "Well a low-rider might be your best bet. Stable ride, you don't have to perform a high jump to get on it. Most bikes made these days though are pretty solid -- not like the classics -- as long as you don't try and take corners too fast, you're fine.”

"No high jumping is a good plan." The low laughter was soft, sort of wry. "And how about special modifications? Do you know anyone who does custom work on bikes?"

He grinned. "Well, Kit. You just happen to be talking to someone who can help you with that kind of thing. I can tear 'em down, build 'em back up, add to 'em, subtract from 'em. You want a VCR and TV installed? I'll make you sign a waiver, but I'll do it for you."

That earned him another laugh and the man pushed himself away from the wall, moving toward him with a stiff, unnatural gait. "Sounds like you might be my man, Tyler. Can I see some examples of your work?"

"Oh, I am always ready to show off my beauties. How much time have you got? 'Cause there's the five cent tour and then there's the grand tour, but I have to warn you now -- you get me started and it takes a strong incentive to stop me again."

"I got time." Kit nodded. "I like to know the people I do business with, know what I'm spending my money for."

"That's a good old-fashioned sense of business that's sadly lacking these days." Tyler figured his hands were about as clean as they'd get, so he pocketed the rag and held out his hand. "Tyler Jenkins, motorcyclephile at your service."

A callused, square hand took his, muscles rippling in that arm. "Kit Keyes. Pleased as hell to meet you."

He smiled, enjoying the feeling of the warm skin against his own. "So tell me, Mr. Keyes, where are you from?"

"Originally? Oklahoma, but I'm living a bit north of here these days." From here Tyler could see Kit's eyes, warm and rich, all greens and browns. "And it's Kit. Mr. Keyes is my daddy."

"Cool. You can call me Tyler or Ty or T or hey you with the awesome bikes." He gave Kit a wink and finally dropped his hand, leading the man to the far end of the long garage. Kit kept up well, the sound of tennis shoes sliding on the concrete echoing.

"You've got a bit of a limp there -- I take it that's responsible for the need for a stable bike with special modifications?" He wasn't one to pussyfoot around a man.

"In a way, yes." Kit stopped and he turned to see the jeans' legs lifted, exposing two steel rods disappearing into the sneakers. "I'm pretty damned stable, but I don't want to get caught because I'm stiff."

"How far up do those go?"

"The left one has three inches below the knee. The right has an inch and a half above."

No embarrassment there, no fear. Just cold, dead truth.

"You can ride then. Without any knees, you might have run into problems. Hell of a thing though."

"Yeah. I don't recommend it, as a rule. Have you modified a bike for something like this before?"

"No, I can't say I have. We'll fix you up though." He gave Kit an easy smile. "If you decide to go with me that is. Now let me show you my beauties. Also known as my babies."

He pulled the tarps off a half a dozen bikes, each one restored to dealership shine. Just like new.

"Damn, those are fine!" Kit let him take the man through each one, listening and asking pertinent questions. Just from talking with him, Tyler could tell Kit knew his way around a motor, wasn't a stupid man, and had done some research.

Once he'd finally petered out, he offered Kit coffee. "Any man who can listen to me go on all afternoon about these babies deserves a cup of my best. There's a little patio out back, we could talk about what you'll need done."

"That'd be appreciated, thank you." Kit followed him out, settling carefully into a cast-iron chair with a soft sigh.

Tyler found a couple of mugs and poured his half-day old coffee into them. "Milk, sugar, black?"

"Black with sugar, please. Thank you. How long have you been working on bikes, Tyler?"

"Pretty much since I was fourteen." He made up the coffees and brought them over along with an old bag of Peeps. "I couldn't ride them yet, but I discovered that nothing set my father's blood pressure higher than bringing some raggedy old bike home from the dump and working on her in the garage."

Kit chuckled, turning down the Peeps with a grin. "Now there's a goal I can respect. My daddy's still telling people his boy's a welder in El Paso."

He chuckled, dipping a peep into his coffee to soften it up. "And what's the truth?"

"The truth?" The man grinned. "I'm in the music business. I own a little label, record independent artists, that sort of thing."

"Independent? The big boys haven't driven you out of business? Cool."

"I worked with the big boys for a while. We have a good relationship. Some of my folks go on to get big deals with the big boys." There was a hint of regret somewhere in that voice.

"Yeah? Makes you sad to see them go?" He wasn't one to leave a mystery alone.

"Oh, no. The kids deserve their shot in the spotlight." Kit shook his head, smiled. "Somehow I doubt you'd be interested in hearing the young'uns I record. All country music, barring a touch of folk."

Tyler chuckled. "Oh, I don't mind a bit of country -- 's long as it's not too twangy."

That earned him a nod. "I hear that a lot. The old twangy stuff's dying out. So, you reckon you could make me a bike that I could learn to ride, Tyler?"

He grinned, noting the change of subject. "I reckon I could, Kit."

"I would like that. I take it you need to come up with specs and an estimate and then I'll cut you a check." Kit leaned forward, rubbed his knees, shoulder muscles working.

He nodded. "That sounds about right. I'll do you a couple of estimates -- one with a brand new bike, another with a second hand one, something I can build up myself. The advantage of a brand new one is going to be durability, but your cost will come down a lot if I build it up from scrap. I won't try and tell you that one I build is going to be as durable and steady as a top of the line new one, but I do a fair job, even if I do say so myself."

"I'm less worried about the money than the quality. It'll have to be good before the insurance company will cover it." Kit nodded. "Sounds good. I've always wanted a bike, even before the accident."

"Good for you for sticking to your guns and not letting a thing like that derail you. There are lots of people who would." He liked Kit. The more he talked to the man, the more he got a good feeling about him.

"The option is getting back up on the horse or lying down to die, I guess. I've had a few years to get used to things. Believe me, I wasn't near as gracious -- or graceful -- at first."

Tyler nodded. "Yeah, I had a friend who didn't take the same option as you. Damn shame, the man was beautiful and talented enough to get a rise out of dead man. The wheel goes around though, doesn't it?"

Kit nodded. "I'm sorry to hear that. I... I was damned lucky. Ten of the twelve of us on the bus died. Rick and I... we don't talk much anymore."

"Oh man, I'm sorry."

"Shit happens." Kit nodded, stretched. "Enough of the sordid and morbid. Can you recommend a place to get a beer and a burger? I'm starving."

"Sure, Kelly's just down the road. Has a great balcony out back, too. Stools in the sand, practically on the beach." He weighed his options, gut telling him he liked this man, wanted to get to know him better. His gut usually wasn't wrong. On the other hand, Kit was a customer, and one who was going to be paying him a hell of a lot of money at that. He decided to drop a little hint and let the winds blow where they would. "It's my favorite place. You tell Vera Ty sent you and she'll give you a piece of pie at half price."

"Sand, huh?" Kit gave him a quiet look. "How about this? You make sure I don't go ass-first into the dirt and I'll buy a round of beers."

Tyler grinned, pleased with the winds. "You've got yourself a deal, Kit. You give me a couple of minutes to close up shop and I'll join 'ya."

"Cool." Kit stood, moving stiff, but steady, and headed toward the front, giving Tyler a nice long look at a strong back and tight little ass.

He had a feeling he was going to need to see a lot of Kit to get this bike just right. At least he hoped so.

Top Ten Tuesday

It's Top Ten Tuesday (again - the weeks are shooting by so fast!) I thought I'd share my favorite fried foods today. I know they're terrible for me, but I do love fried foods. I think grease should be one of the food groups ;)

Top Ten Favourite Fried Food

10. Chips - especially salt and vinegar ones
9. Pogos (Canuck version of corn dogs)
8. deep fried ice cream (mars bar/twinkie/etc) - dessert is good to start with, and then you add deep frying? yes, please
7. calimari - as long as it's not overcooked, I love calamari
6. french fries - yum!
5. fried chicken - dark meat for me, please - although I do like the breast well enough in chicken fingers
4. tempura vegetables - I love the tempura batter on veggies
3. tempura shrimp - yum!
2. beavertails - deep fried dough of any kind is yummy - I'd put funnel cake and churros in with this one
1. Onion rings - done right, these are pure heaven. I like the onions to be really thick and the breading to be super crispy.

My God It's Monday

I have a busy week like whoa and a good half of my todo list should be done yesterday, let alone today! So of course today is the day where I'm like a gnat on crack and flit from thing to thing, not actually completing tasks but working on one for a few minutes before going, oh wait, what's that? flit flit flit. It is not the best way to get shit accomplished.

I'm starting to feel the need for a steak. Every now and then I just have to have red meat, preferably with a salad on the side. I guess my body gets to craving the iron and vitamins? I don't know, but sometimes it's just absolutely necessary. I'm thinking there's a visit to Moxies in my near future. They also do these sushi cones that I could totally gorge on for days. One day I will go there and get like three orders of them and just pig out. I haven't yet because I get there and ooo steak, so I wind up sharing the sushi cones and having steak. Mmmm... steak. Mmmm... sushi cones.

I am not actually a huge sushi fan, but I do love the crab ones, the shrimp ones, and the California rolls with the crab in them. But most of the raw fish ones just don't do it for me. Of course, I'm not a fan of fish. Shell fish, yes, bring it on I like it all - except for oysters and that's a texture thing - but regular fish with gills and scales? I am just not fond. Some I can tolerate, some I just plain don't like at all.

Dreamspinner Press has 30% off storewide through to May 31, including pre-orders. You can find my books here.

Loving the rainy day. It's nice and cool. The dog does not like getting wet (despite having webbed toes) so he spends rainy days sleeping. The funniest thing is when he doesn't realize it's raining and he wants to go out. So I open the door for him and he dashes out, only to freeze just on the other side of the doorstep and come back in. He can hold on for a long, long time to keep from having to go out in the rain. The longest ever was one time when he'd gone out to do his business at 6pm, then didn't go out again until the next day around 2pm. No accidents in the house, either. He just was holding on until the rain stopped, or his bladder exploded. For the record, he waited until the rain stopped.

We're experiencing a much wetter sprint this year than last where it was near drought conditions. On the plus side - the flowers, trees and grass are loving the water (especially as it's been coupled with lots of sunshine, too). On the negative side, this has already been a banner year for mosquitoes and the mosquito season has only just started! Yikes. The fact that it was a relatively warm winter isn't helping keep their numbers down, either.

Oh! I started out talking about the rain meaning to say that I'm having to wear a sweater and I love having to wear sweaters. There you see the gnat on crack in action...

And on that note, I should probably get back to the many things on my todo list. I've been working all morning, but it really doesn't seem any smaller!

Happy Memorial Day to everyone in the US. Hugs to those who have lost loved ones who served.

Movie Monday

Well there were no movies last week, however I did mainline the entire season of Iron Fist on Netflix. If you haven't seen it yet, and don't want spoilers, you should probably not read the rest of this post.

I quite enjoyed this one. Maybe not quite as much as Jessica Jones, but it was definitely worth my time.

Finn Jones was great as Danny Rand and I liked the character - I liked that he wasn't a typical westerner and how he had to learn about living in North America as opposed to Kun-Lun where he has spent the last 15 years.

The supporting characters were great - especially Howard Meecham, his son Ward. I loved how they flipped were each a villain and each heroic at different points in the show.  Colleen was great - it's always nice to see a kick-ass woman on TV (and in movies.) I thought Joy was underutilized - things happened to her more than anything and she was always in the dark. It was great to see Claire back again - I love the way she's been wound through all four of the Netflix Marvel shows.

I'm excited for The Defenders, which I think is coming out late this summer. It's going to feature all four Netflix heroes - Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist - working together.

Smutterday - Where Flows the Water

As promised, here's a smutty excerpt from Where Flows the Water.

The water flows to Quan, a mage in search of the most important thing a mage can find; his protector and life partner. Quan knows his mate is out there somewhere, even though he's beginning to despair ever finding that elusive person after all his years of needing.

Young tribesman Jael is Quan's other half, but he doesn't know it yet. Where Flows the Water explores the relationship between these two very different men as they meet and begin to build something lasting and necessary, aided by physical closeness that scorches with its intensity.

Jael resists Quan for as long as he can, wanting a normal life with a wife and children. He can only fight the winds so long, though, and eventually he comes to accept that Quan may just be his life, and his love. When the two finally get it right, they connect, and it's them against the world, which sometimes seems determined to tear them apart.

Set in a fantasy world as complex as it is interesting, Where Flows the Water showcases a place where magic is a part of the everyday world in hundreds of small ways, and where love knows few boundaries, if only the stubborn can see.

Check out this Sean Michael classic, set in the Windbrothers’ world.

Smutty Excerpt:

"You dreamed of me when you were a boy!" Quan hugged Jael tightly. "The winds spoke to you in your dreams of me. I am honored, Jael."

"I... Yes. Yes, the winds told me, but I could not see." Jael met his eyes. "I am trying to be what you need, trying to understand and know what to do."

He cupped Jael's cheek, fingers stroking the tanned skin. "I know I am not what you were expecting or even wanted, but I am yours, Jael and I will make you happy if you give me a chance."

"You are my ki’ita. My One given by the winds. You have all the chances."

"Jael..." He leaned forward, pressing his lips gently against Jael's. Jael gasped, stilled, but didn't back away, just watched him with stunned, sparkling eyes. He held the green eyes as he moved his lips slowly against Jael's, the muscles of his belly jumping. Jael's palm pressed against his stomach, the other hand sliding over his jaw into his hair. He licked gently at Jael's lips, just the tip of his tongue teasing lightly.

"Oh..." Jael's lips parted, breath coming quick and light. He could taste sweetgrass and fresh water on his hunter's lips, the warm breath carrying the scent of the forest on it.

He pressed a little harder, lips clinging to Jael's now. Jael shuddered, pressing close and pulling back in nervous waves. He put his hand over Jael's on his stomach, pressing. "You take away my pain, Jael," he whispered against soft lips. He brought his other hand to their lips, touching his own as well as Jael's. "You make me feel so good."

"No pain, ki’ita." Jael brushed his lips against Quan's fingers. "No pain."

He looked into the green eyes. "It's more than that though, Jael. More than just no pain. Your touch..." made him hard, but would saying that frighten his skittish ki’ita?

"My touch?" Jael's hand moved gently over his stomach, massaging and arousing.

"Makes me ache for more, makes me want you. We could bring each other such pleasure, my ki’ita."

He brought their lips together again, pressing and licking. Jael gasped again, lips parting, kiss deepening ever so slightly. Oh. Oh, his ki’ita, his hunter, Jael was kissing him back. Tears began to fall, his emotions overwhelming him. He licked the insides of Jael's lips, opened his own mouth a little more.

Jael's fingers brushed his tears from his cheeks, soft lips leaving his to whisper, "Quan? Are you... Do you ache?"

He licked Jael's fingers, tasting the salt of his tears. "A good ache, Jael. You make me feel so good, it is almost too much."

"Should I stop?" Jael moaned, eyes focused and shining with the flame. "I will stop."

"Oh, no, Jael. Please don't stop. I said almost. Almost." He closed their lips together again, tongue dancing its way inside Jael's mouth, searching for its mate. Jael groaned, pushing into the kiss with a tentative need, tongue sliding against him own, clumsy and so sweet. His breath caught, his hand pushing Jael's tight against his belly as his hips jerked. Oh, he wanted this man. So badly. With a hunger he had never before tasted. He opened his mouth wider, teased and encouraged, trying to coax Jael's tongue into his own mouth.

Jael groaned, tongue sliding on his lips. "Ki’ita. I never... Oh, Quan."

Then Jael's tongue dipped inside his lips to taste. He was shaking like a virgin, pleasure moving through him in wave after wave. Nothing had ever made him feel like this, not even the water. Hands slid over his skin, slow and warm, trembling. The kiss deepened, Jael whimpering, gasping, body pushing close, a thick heat pushing against his thigh. He shifted, bringing their shafts together, gasping and grabbing onto Jael's shoulders and they rubbed together.

"Oh! Quan! I... I don't... I..." Jael's hands cupped his face, eyes wide as their mouths met again, tongues sliding together, wet and hot. He let one hand slide down along Jael's chest, taking their cocks in his hand and stroking them together as he moaned.  Jael jerked, pushing them over into the furs with a harsh cry. "Quan! Oh!"

Then his hunter came for him, heat splashing against his hand and belly. It was enough to send him cresting on his own wave and he cried out his hunter's name as he came. The pleasure moved along his spine, making lights sparkle behind his eyes. He could hear the cave and the water singing to one another, could feel it inside and in the way he and Jael were singing to each other now.

Jael gasped, holding him tight, shudders rocking the long body. Each sweet shudder brought out a matching one from him, as if Jael's pleasure were his own.

"I... Quan..." Jael sounded stunned, sated and just a little scared.

He reached up to bring Jael's mouth to his again, keeping the kiss soft and easy. "Oh, Jael... that was more beautiful than anything I have ever known."

Book Day Wednesday

Where Flows the Water is set in the Windbrothers' world. This one takes place many moons earlier than the Windbrothers: Desert novel. It's the story of two men who are destined to be together, but they have a few bumps on the way.  Quan and Jael were so much fun to write. Quan is one of my first 'grumpy' characters. Oh, and I love the new cover!

There's a work-safe excerpt on this post. There will be a smutty excerpt on Saturday!

The water flows to Quan, a mage in search of the most important thing a mage can find; his protector and life partner. Quan knows his mate is out there somewhere, even though he's beginning to despair ever finding that elusive person after all his years of needing.

Excerpt:

Jael heard the scream only a heartbeat before he heard the infuriated roar of the bear. Sernes whinnied and stamped and then they were off, moving through the forest at a breakneck speed, wind and sound and excitement plummeting him forward.

His throwing knives were in his hand, rahat readied at his side. The huge brown animal had someone treed -- Jael didn't have the time or inclination to be curious as to who yet, as he wheeled Sernes around to aim the first volley of knives. The first knife sliced through the thick fur, but was easily brushed away. The second and third found their marks, burying deep into the thick, ropy muscle of the bear's shoulder. The fourth knife was slapped from the air by a huge paw, the beast turning and roaring furiously. Sernes bucked, screaming shrilly into the air, the smell and vicinity of the bear more than her training could take. Jael managed to throw one more knife as he leapt from her back and began swinging his rahat on a strong, thin mara-silk rope, looking for a wounding blow that would keep him out of range of those claws and teeth. Time slowed, became thick and heavy like good honey on a winter morning. It was always like this, on a good hunt, during the battle -- thick and slow and his heart beat so steady and strong and he could see everything and...

There!

The bear shifted, one arm moving to strike and he let the blades fly, crowing as they sank deep, piercing organ and flesh and bone. With a tug, the blades came free, blood pouring from the bear, weakening it in steady pulses. Jael circled, keeping the dying animal's attention, watching for the killing blow. He disliked when they suffered and prided himself on a clean, quick kill. It was his fondest wish that his prey appeared, surprised and still running, in the green fields of the Land of Summer, still believing themselves in their native woods.

It took only two more blows before the bear fell to the ground, its spirit slipping from its meat and pelt. Jael leaned down and slit the throat before the heart stilled, repeating the motion on the thick pad of flesh below his thumb. He watched as both fluids fell and fed the earth, one dead and one living. As it should be.

As he became aware of his surroundings once more, he realized the screaming hadn't stopped. The man, for it appeared to indeed be a man, who had been treed, was still quite a ways up, crying and screeching and begging for the moon to save him. Jael tilted his head. "You! Up there! It's dead. You can stop now. You hurt?"

Whoever the man was, he wasn't from here -- not with that accent and those clothes. Maybe from the big water or perhaps the tribes by the white mountains. "Dead? Hurt? Yes! Yes, I'm hurt. For the love of the moon, get me down!"

"Where are you hurt?" Jael slipped the rahat into its customary place, climbing easily up the takava. He loved these trees, they smelled like the candies from the Feast days -- minty and spicy and warm.

"Where?" The man was still half-shrieking, half-yelling, panic clear in his voice. "What does it matter where? I am bleeding to death and we are discussing wound placement."

"In my experience, people lose their voices long before they lose their last drop of blood. You must be safe."

"I'm hanging perilously from a tree. I am most assuredly not safe!" The panic in the man's voice had faded somewhat, replaced by indignation.

"Perilously?" Jael frowned and shrugged, holding one hand up towards the man. He didn't look like he was bleeding to death, but he definitely looked unhappy. "Well, come on then. If you don't like being up here, let's go down."

Blue eyes that were almost green, unlike any he'd ever seen before, stared down at him: first at his hand and then the ground and then into his face. "On second thought, maybe I'll just stay where I am."

"Stay? But you said..." Jael blinked and frowned. Maybe the odd man really was wounded. He reached out again, more insistent. "Come now. Falling out of the tree would hurt."

"Yes, I'm sure it would." The man wrapped his arms more firmly around the trunk. "That's why I'll stay right where I am. As long as I keep talking I won't bleed to death, right? That is what you said."

"I did not. I said you couldn't talk if..." He sighed and whistled for Sernes, sliding back down the trunk with a mental shrug. He'd give the man a moment; perhaps he was frightening. He didn't think he was particularly threatening, but he had just killed a bear alone. Oh, Naki would have to be impressed by this. Have to. He pulled his blade as his feet hit the ground, heading for his kill. "You want some of the meat? You did find it, after all."

"Wait! Where are you going? You can't just leave me here!"

Top Ten Tuesday - On Wednesday

Top Ten Ice Cream Flavours

10. Heavenly Hash - that's right, the closest thing to chocolate is in 10th spot. I am not a big chocolate ice cream fan.
9. Maple Walnut
8. Cookies and Cream - it's like an oreo cookie and ice cream had a baby.
7. Butterscotch Ripple
6. Strawberry - but only if the strawberry tastes real.
5. Orange Sherbert - light and orange-y.
4. Pralines and Cream - I do like the salty and sweet combo of this one
3. Vanilla - I know, plain and simple, but I love it and you can dress it up if you want or just eat it as is.
2. Lime sorbet - I especially like the one that Farm Boy used to do.
1. Butter Pecan - it's getting harder to find, but it's my all-time favorite.

I think it might be time to go get some ice cream...

Movie Monday - on a Wednesday

It's been one of those weeks, so I'm very behind, but I still wanted to do Movie Monday because I actually went to the theatre and saw a movie!

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2

I very much enjoy it. It was action-filled, it was funny. It was a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

I will say that I agree with the person who told me that it was just one gag after another, mixed in with action - that there wasn't much more to it than that. And I totally understand that comment. Much of the humor felt forced and it did feel a bit like it was a parody of the first one. They had all the elements there, I think the writing (and possibly directing) let them down a little this time around. They relied an awful lot on stereotypes, too.

I'm not saying it was a bad movie, because it wasn't, I totally enjoyed it. But it could have bee so much better than it was. And it was definitely not as good as the first one.

Baby Groot was adorable, though, and so was Chris Pratt. So there was plenty of eye candy ;)

Smutterday - Bus Stories

Bus Stories is a reprint, now out as a self-pub.

The image of two men spark six different scenarios in this Sean Michael classic.

Jonathon and Benny get on the bus separately, but are clearly together as Benny wears a tattoo on his neck that is the exact match for Jonathon’s scarring. What follows are six short stories that each explore a different tale of why they got on the bus and where they go from there.

Originally published in the Bus Stories anthology and released as a stand-alone by a different publisher.

Smutty Excerpt:

He went and crouched down in front of J, watching from up close. He loved how all those muscles worked together.

J grinned at him when he came up, kissing his chin. "Taste good."

Then J went back down.

Benny slid his hands over J's knees, waiting for him to come up again.

J's entire body rippled when he sat back up, tiny little nipples hard, entire body gleaming in the lamplight. Nobody was really expecting him to hold back now, were they? J knew, he just had to, that there was no way he was going to be able to resist touching.

Blue eyes -- blue enough that he'd thought they were contacts. Nobody but J had those eyes -- flashed at him, teasing.

Benny grinned back and slid his hand along the tight, flexing muscles, loving the feel of them under his hand as J worked them: hard and hot and slick with J's sweat.

The next time J came up, one hand cupped Benny’s neck and pulled him into a hard, quick kiss that made his knees weak -- which was probably cool because he was kneeling, but still -- damn. Then J went back down again. Benny let his hand move up, flicking across one of those small nipples before going back down to the rippling stomach muscles.

Three more sit-ups, each one with a hard kiss, and then J collapsed backwards. Panting, arms up over his head, naked and sweaty and not quite hard -- fuck but his J was something else.

All those firm, thick muscles, the long body that just went on and on... J was everything Benny wasn't. He laid himself out on top of J, resting their lips together.

J's eyes were bright, fucking bright against the purple beach towel that he used to work out on. His tongue crept out, stroked against the corner of Benny's mouth.

Benny smiled. J had forgiven him enough for this. It was gonna be okay. He moved his lips against J's, the stud in his lip rubbing between them. J didn't deepen it, didn't move really -- just sort of came down from whatever adrenaline high he was on as they shared breath.

Benny loved this, loved lying on his J-mattress. It was warm and hardbutsoft and it made him hard but it wasn't urgent, it was just good.

A half-dozen times J took a breath to talk, or he did, but they didn't. They just didn't. The music just kept playing, one loud, driving song after another.

Benny finally couldn't take the stillness anymore and wriggled, rubbing himself against J, wishing he'd taken his clothes off. But the lights were on and J was so hot and hard and he was just... scrawny and pale.

"Lose the shirt, Benny."

"Yeah, okay." He got up and went and turned the light off and then shimmied out of his clothes, kicking away his shoes and letting everything else just drop on the floor where he was standing. Then he was back on top of J, groaning happily as all that hot skin pressed against him.

"You worried the neighbors are gonna see you still?" One of J's hands still down his back, cupped his ass. He half shrugged, most of his attention on the sensation of J's skin against his own, the large, hot hand on his ass. J's fingers were tickling, running along the crease where his butt cheek met his leg. "Love this spot. Feels good."

Benny pushed back against J's fingers, trying to make the touch harder. The motions rubbed his cock along J's stomach and he groaned. Shit, J felt so good. J chuckled, kept up the light, easy touches. Benny could feel J's cock -- hotter than the rest of him, even -- nudging against his thigh, sort of poking and just making its presence known.

Smutterday - Golden

Golden is currently available for pre-order. It'll be available for download on Wednesday May 24. Today I've got a smutty excerpt from it for you.

After winning Olympic gold four years ago, Justin retired from swimming, and he’s been floundering ever since. The Fourth of July finds him contemplating doing something stupid, so Justin calls up his former coach, Chris Jarvis. To his surprise, Coach answers.

When Justin retired, Chris cut all ties with the swimmer he’d fallen in love with. He never wanted Justin to love him just because it was easy. But he’s been waiting for Justin to reach out, and he’ll gladly take Justin back into his life.

When he finds out Justin is drowning in a pool of self-doubt and the belief that his happy years are behind him, Chris realizes he made a mistake letting go so suddenly, and that Justin needs structure and a firm, dominant hand to keep him on the right track. It’s time to remedy his error—as long as he can convince Justin that it’s really love.

Smutty Excerpt:

Coach tilted his head and stole his breath with another kiss. The man had to stop this. Really. Later.
Justin’s cock was achingly hard, and the kisses were perfect.

The kiss went deeper, Coach bending him back over one strong arm. He held on, the room swimming behind him. The kiss went on and on, totally stealing his breath. His body was aching; he was so hard his prick hurt. Coach’s hand slid from his neck on down, all the way down to his waistband.

Please. Fuck, please. He just needed to come.

Then Coach’s hand drifted down the rest of the way, cupping and squeezing him through his jeans. He bucked up, humping hard. His body had wanted this for so long. Groaning, Coach shoved him up against the wall, free hand working on his belt, his button.

“Want.” He growled the word against Coach’s lips. “Please.”

“Come on.” Coach clasped his hand and dragged him toward the bedroom.

Justin nodded, following along fast enough that they were almost running.

“Naked,” growled Coach, pulling off his own T-shirt and then working on his jeans.

“Uh-huh.” Justin stepped out of his shorts, shrugged off his button-up.

Once he was naked, his hard prick pointed right at Coach’s cock, which was pointing right back. Coach took his arms and tugged him close, bringing their mouths together again. Justin reached down, wrapped his fingers around their cocks, and started jerking them off.

“This time,” muttered Coach. “But then we do it right.”

“Uh-huh.” Whatever. He needed.

Coach kissed him again, wrapping one hand around his, speeding his movements. They jacked fast and hard, driving together like they’d done this forever. Their kisses made everything better, hotter. Justin’s balls drew up, and he went up on tiptoe, so close.

“Come for me, Just. Right now.”

“Right….” Heat poured from Justin, and he groaned, moaning his coach’s name.

“Fuck, yes, Just.” Coach bucked, cock pushing through their hands, and more slick sprayed, coating their fingers.

Oh. Oh, better.

Coach moaned softly, rubbed their noses together. “God, I’ve wanted to do that forever.”

Justin took a deep breath, trying to find his feet. The smell of them together filled his nose as he breathed, and then Coach rubbed a hand on his belly, marking him with their combined come. Justin’s muscles rippled and rolled, and he couldn’t help his groan.

“The things I want to do to you, Just. I want to turn you inside out and make you mine.”

“Don’t tease.” He’d wanted to be Coach’s long before now.

“I’m not teasing, Just. I mean it.”

“I’m not…. What are we doing here?”

“We’re giving in to the feelings we suppressed for a lot of years. We have something here between us.” Coach tugged Justin down onto the mattress as he spoke.

Coach’s bed was soft, warm—not as warm as Coach, though. His body was like a flame. Those amazing lips landed on Justin’s again, this kiss long and slow but no less intense. Coach’s hands were on Justin’s head, on his ass, drawing him close so they were touching everywhere.

Justin had always liked Coach’s hands, but they’d never touched him like this before. It was kind of stunning. It was dizzying. Crazy-making. Perfect.

One hand slipped between them, Coach going for his nipples, touching lightly and then harder. The sting made Justin gasp, made him grab Coach’s hand. Coach chuckled and did it again.

“Stings.” Justin groaned the word against Coach’s lips.

“Makes your cock twitch.” Coach twisted his nipple this time.

“S-so?” He arched, rubbed.

“So you like it. And I’m going to keep doing it.” Coach proved that by twisting the other one.

“No way.” He grunted, tried to push Coach over.

Coach pushed him over, rolled on top of him and straddled him, held both his arms together on his belly in one hand. “Are you always this pushy in bed?” Coach asked.

“I don’t usually fuck in a bed.” Justin was more the quick-hand-job-in-the-showers guy.

“You will now. Bed’s the best place for it. Though there’s something to be said for testing out the rest of the furniture in the house.”

God, Coach was strong. “I….”

Coach leaned in and kissed him again, long and slow and almost devastating. By the time Coach’s lips left his, he was spinning. Dazed. Needy.

Random Friday

  • After two days of mid-summer weather I am so happy to have a much more temperate day today. The high today is lower than the low from the last two days. I'm jealous of those folks who got snowstorms, though!
  • The weather looks good for tomorrow's plan to go see the tulips - there will probably be lots of pictures on instagram... I just love the tulip festival. I love how all these different and beautiful flowers are tulips.
  • I've been craving something lately, only I don't know what. I just can almost taste it in my mouth and I'll wander through the fridge and the cupboards in the kitchen and just not be able to come up with what! Very annoying.
  • I made meatloaf last night and tonight I'm having meatloaf sandwich for supper. Yum.
  • Got my ticket for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in 3D at the IMAX on Sunday. I figure if nothing else there will be baby groot and Chris Pratt to look at ;)
  • The todo list is still large, but I did get some stuff on it done, so that's a good thing.
  • I'm looking forward to working and also relaxing.
  • Have a great weekend all!

Top Ten Tuesday

Today I'm sharing my favourite candies! I shouldn't eat any of these anymore, but that doesn't stop me...

Top Ten Favourite Candies

10. Swedish Berries
9. Lemon Drops
8. Sour Patch Kids
7. Sour Keys - this is hit and miss though in that some flavors are better than others
6. Sour Wine Gums - I like the regular wine gums okay, too, but I prefer the sour ones (can you see a theme developing here?)
5. Nerds - there used to be a super sour box, but it seems to have disappeared, but I still like Nerds anyway
4. Sweettart Sours - but I only eat the purple and orange ones (I used to get the regular sweetarts too and only eat the orange and purple, but then they stopped making the orange ones!)
3. Prosecco Bears from Squish - how they manage to get them to feel like they are almost bubbling as you eat them I don't know, but they are delicious
2. Gummy Cokes from Haribo -it's got to be Haribo or it just tastes like fruit, and I have loved these since I lived in Germany when I was ten and you couldn't get them in North America.
1. Raspberry Puckers from IKEA - who knew IKEA would have such good gummies? Or that their sour ones were really nice and sour without disappearing into sickly sweet?

Blue Jay Shifter Ficlet

There are three blue jays hanging around in my backyard, obviously two males and a female because there is mating behavior going on. This inspired me to write the following little bit of fiction.

Blue Jay Love

Jay flapped his wings and sang his song, filling his breast with as much air as he could before letting it ring out. It was no good, though. The lovely lady he’d been calling to flew off with the interloper. Chirping indignantly, he flew in through the open window, shifting as he came to a landing on the floor by the couch.

Snarling, he stomped into the kitchen for a glass of water – trying to find a mate was fucking hard work.

“Whoa, who ruffled your feathers?” asked Blu, his roommate, sitting at the little kitchen table, a bowl of cereal in front of him.

“I don’t know! It was a new guy. I all but had her eating out of my hand and promising to line my nest when this big guy – the biggest motherfucking jay I’ve ever seen – swooped in and stole her out from under me!” Jay hated mating season. If he’d been better at it, he might possibly have enjoyed it more, but the truth was, nobody wanted to mate with him, ever. And, well, he wasn't even sure that he liked girls anyway.

Blu gave him a look. “I’m not sure why you even bother trying to pick up a mate. It’s not like you want babies. Or even like girls.”

He gave Blu a startled look. “But it’s our nature. It’s what we do.” It was expected. Whether you wanted to or not.

Blu shrugged. “I don’t. The only one I want to shake my tail feathers at is you.”

Jay gasped, his cock going immediately hard – and he was still naked, so he couldn’t hide his reaction from Blu. Not that he really wanted to if Blu was being honest about the tail feather shaking thing.

“I like you, Jay. A very lot.”

Jay bobbed his head up and down. “Me, too. You. Like me. I mean you. I mean I like you too.”

Blu laughed and launched himself from his chair, pouncing Jay and pushing him up against the wall. “You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to hear you say that.”

“Three and a half years,” Jay guessed as that was how long they’d been sharing the little house they lived in.

“Yeah, pretty much.”

They stared at each other for a long moment, Blu pressed up against him, skin warm, cock hard and burning against his belly. Jay had never imagined anything could feel so good.

Jay finally blinked. “What are you going to do about it?” Was that his voice – all husky and wanton sounding?

“This.” Blu brought their mouths together, kissing him hard. His mouth opened automatically and Blu’s tongue pushed in. It slid along his own tongue and touched his teeth, the roof of his mouth. It made his belly go hard and hot, a ball of need settling there. Blu stepped back, their mouths parting and Jay leaned in, wanting that connection back. “And this.” Blu dropped to his knees and took Jay’s cock in his mouth.

Oh Great Feathered God of the Skies.

My God It's Monday

And a beautiful Monday it is, too! It is sunny and warm and there is a stunning cool breeze coming in through the screen door. While it is definitely a Monday, I am definitely enjoying today's weather. As is the dog who is outside on his outside bed in the sun, sleeping.

I did manage to put together a todo list this morning and I'm working my way through it, knocking things off. I've managed to get a little writing in this morning, too. So yay for both those things.

I have a new self-pub novel in the midst of edits and cover creation. Hopefully it'll be available before the end of the month. You know what they say - April edits bring May releases ;) And like the flowers, though there were edits in April, early May was cold (busy) enough that the release isn't quite ready yet. And I think I have tortured that metaphor quite enough!

I need to pull the winner from the last contest I held, and get organized for a new batch of contests - it's Canada's 150th birthday this year and I'm going to be doing contests to celebrate over the next few months. So keep your eyes on this spot!

Okay, back to the todo list. I just hope that I manage to stay as organized for the rest of the week!

Movie Monday

I haven't been feeling great so I didn't get to any movies this week and at home I've been watching stuff on the DVR to try to lower the percentage used as I was away for a week and it got a little full during that time. So no movies that I've seen to talk about. I can, however, stick to the theme by talking about movies I want to see.

There are so many good movies out/coming out in the next few months and I want to see them all! I know me, though and I'll probably get to maybe one a month. I'm aiming for more than that, though.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - I've heard both good and bad things about this one, so I don't know what to expect, which is probably a good thing. The more excited I am about a movie, the more it has to live up to, which it usually can't. So going in not knowing which side I'm going to wind up on is a good thing.

King Arthur - it looks like a new take on the legend and I'm interested in seeing it.

Alien: Covenant - if you know me, you know I'm not a horror fan, although sci-fi horror has always been a draw (I loved the first Predator movie, for instance). I didn't even know this one was coming, but the preview I saw in the theatre was absolutely amazing and now I want to see it. It would probably be better if I saw this one at home, though, as I have to think it would be less terrifying on a smaller screen!

Baywatch - this is one is a total guilty pleasure, and I'm pretty sure I won't spend theatre money on, but I will see at home. But it look hilarious from the previews I've seen. And come on, it's the Rock. 'nuff said.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales - I love this stupid franchise even if none of the others lived up to the first one. I'm still enjoying them.

Transformers: The Last Knight - I love this stupid franchise even more than Pirates. There's just something about them that keep me coming back. And I will happily re-watch the first movie anytime. So I will be watching this one, whether in the theatre or at home once its out on blu-ray. I hope Bee is in this one, because I have to admit, I'm a little in love with that yellow transformer.

Despicable Me 3 - I've loved the other movies, so I've got high hopes for this one. All I can say is that there had better be minions galore!

Wonder Woman and Spiderman - I do want to see these, both of them are in the planning to wait for the blu-ray category, though. And Wonder Woman had better be a hell of a lot better than Batman vs Superman was!

War for the Planet of the Apes - I'm behind on this franchise, having only seen the first one, so this won't be an in-theatre movie.

Renegades - don't know much about this one, but the synopsis says it has the potential to be fun action-adventure or to be so bad it's funny: A group of Navy SEALs attempt to solve a long-forgotten mystery while uncovering an immense treasure hidden in a lake in war-torn Serbia.

Have a great Monday all!

Top Ten Tuesday

I thought I'd share my top ten favorite moments from my time at RT last week.

Top Ten RT17 Moments.

10. Finally getting to Atlanta after Monday's storms kept me at home.
9.. The Giant Book Fair. It is wonderful to meet readers, to sign books and hand out swag.
8. Having dinner at Benihana's on Saturday night. I'd never been and it was a wonderful show and delicious food.
7. Getting to meet Lisa, who had so kindly let me send all my swag to her so I didn't have to carry it down with me. She also picked me up from the airport.
6. Going to the ATF panel for writers. They had 9 agents from the agency and each spoke about what they did, then took questions from the audience. It was fascinating and the explosive sniffing dog was cute as hell.
5. Playing Cards Against Humanity in the lobby of the International Tower (the quiet one).
4. Catching up with folks I haven't seen in a year. I miss everyone already.
3. Playing Pin the Tail on the Dragon at the Sexy Southern Seance Carnivale. I was a little worried people might think it was too hokey, but it went really well and I think everyone enjoyed it. Plus, anytime you can ask multiple times "Do you want a dragon penis or a book as your prize," is a good time.
2. Meeting the readers. To all of you who came to the signing or the Carnivale or who stopped me in the halls - it was so nice to meet you!
1. Meeting Wander - the inspiration behind one of the characters in Branded by Flames. I saw a picture of him and had to write him and out of that the whole Dragon Soul Series was born. Then I went to RT this year and there he was. He was so very nice.
