Movie Tuesday

I am old enough to remember when the first multi-theatre cineplex opened up in Montreal. (Oh, sure there were places with two or occasionally even three full sized theaters, but then cineplex opened these theaters with 9 or more littler rooms with slightly smaller screens). Those came first, but shortly after them came half price Tuesdays. There was a long period of time when I saw a movie every single Tuesday because instead of five dollars, they would be two fifty. For five bucks I could get a burger and a coke at Wendy's, then see the movie of my choice.

Movies are still cheaper on Tuesdays, though even at half price, they are more than they were back in the day (yes, because I am ancient and used to walk ten miles to school and back - uphill both ways -- in freezing rain, sub-zero temps and blizzards every second day).

Anyway. So even though I don't go to movies in the theater very often anymore and at this point, the day I go is more about getting good seats and when it's convenient to me, Tuesday is still movie day in my head.

As it happens, I am going to a movie today -- I'm off to see the third Hobbit movie at the IMAX. In anticipation of this, I have rewatched the first two.

My opinion has not changed -- the first one is still better than the second - it flows faster, is more exciting, and I liked it more than I did the second one. Not that I didn't enjoy the second, because I did. It's still an awesome movie -- I'm just hoping I feel the third one is more like the first than the second ;)

It's really cool to see books from my youth so amazingly brought to life. I do believe after watching the third Hobbit tonight, it will be time to rewatch the Lord of the Rings movies to complete the saga.

I must say that I believe that these six movies are my favorite adaptations of a book(s) ever.

What is your favorite movie from a book adaptation?

  1. My all-time favorite movie from a book is Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’. It was a “made for TV” movie but I still love it and I've watched it once a year every year I've owned it.

    1. I liked the movie better than the book, though possibly because I saw the movie and then read the book...

    1. I have not read or seen that one, though I know all the famous lines from the movie - it's one of those quotable ones, isn't it.

  6. Enjoy the third Hobbit movie! I enjoyed the second mainly because I have a bit of a crush on Benedict Cumberbatch.

    1. LOL! I just felt the second didn't have the flow of the first one, where there wasn't a dull moment. In the second there were a few spots where I felt things dragged some.

  7. OOoh Cannot WAIT to hear what you think! We saw it on one of those really big screens as well - Regal RPX - at a marathon no less!

Hmm movie adaptation...that's so hard to choose, there have been some really good ones. The Tolkien ones obviously rank very highly, but Gone With The Wind is brilliant too...and um *hides* The Fault In Our Stars *hides* Oh and I really liked The Maze Runner as an adaptation...
