Author Spotlight Tuesday - Katherine Halle

I have the lovely Katherine Halle in the spolight again today -- she has a new release with Dreamspinner to share.

What is your favorite thing about Fixing the Hole?

Hmm, probably that it's such a sweet story. Very little angst in this one.

In general, are you a morning person or an evening person?

Oooh, that's a tough one. I have an internal alarm clock that wakes me up about 0530-0600 just about every morning. But I don't necessarily WANT to be up at that time. There are days I get up and get on my Mac and get quite a bit accomplished. So I guess I'm a morning person? But I used to be a night owl. Used to be able to stay up late and work on things, now though, most days I'm so tired I end up in bed asleep before midnight. /o\

When is your best writing time?

Really anytime I can have unbroken, uninterrupted time. I can write in the morning, in the afternoon, but usually not at night because I'm just too tired LOL.

Salty or sweet?

To quote Cordelia Chase from Joss Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer…"Hello salty goodness."  But then there's this, "There is nothing that cannot be solved by chocolate."  So both?  :D

What is your favorite comfort food?

Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy. Or baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy. What can I say, my grandmother was from the South, I grew up on good Southern food :D

What inspired you to write Fixing the Hole?

Well, I actually wrote it for the Snow On The Roof anthology but it wasn't accepted. However, the email I received said the editor liked the story so much that she wanted me to expand it to novella length and resubmit it. So I did. The rest is history :D

Deep or shallow?

Oh well, isn't this a naughty question ;p Depends on the circumstances both have their advantages.

How many contractors does it take to change a lightbulb?

None. They don't change lightbulbs – they hire other people to do that.

Hot or Cold?

Hmm, I'm gonna say cold, I'd much prefer to wear layers then sweat to death. Oh wait, you meant…ha ha ha ha definitely cold then ;p

Are you handy with a hammer?

Yup, comes with the territory of being a Navy wife. I can fix a toilet, hook up all our electronics, unclog a sink, change a tire, all that good stuff. I'm the handyman AND the nurse around our house :D

Who was easier to write, Steve or Riley?

I actually enjoyed writing both. Riley is such a chatterbox, it was easy to get into the groove of his speech pattern and just go. And Steve, quiet, insecure, Steve, getting into his head was a breeze. The self-doubt practically wrote itself.

Are Steve and Riley grow-ers or show-ers?

HA HA another dirty question you little minx! I believe Steve is a grow-er, it totally fits his personality, plus you always have to watch out for the quiet ones…they tend to be wildcats in bed ;p  As for Riley – a little bit of both? He doesn't grow as much as Steve because he already starts out showing some ;p

Can you share a few sexy lines from your release?

Hoping the sun was giving him just as many problems as me and that his rapid-fire monologue would distract him, I shifted my gaze from his sunglasses and gave an appraising glance up and down his body. Same jeans as yesterday, so his thigh muscles were easily on display along with just a glimpse of his nicely toned ass.

“See something you like?”

“Wh-what?” I stuttered out, almost choking on my tongue. My face flared red with mortification at the knowledge that he’d caught me staring. This was definitely one of those moments where I sincerely hoped—prayed—that the ground would open up underneath me and swallow me whole. But of course it didn’t and Riley moved closer.

I shoved the coffee at him. Luckily his hand closed around it before I spilled it all over his shirt.

“You made me coffee again,” he said, his smile taking over his face before he closed his eyes to take a first sip.

He moaned in appreciation and I groaned in response. The sound he made went straight to my dick, which decided to sit up and take notice, as if I needed its input.

I watched him down the coffee and set the cup behind me on the step. “Thanks for the coffee. It was delicious; makes me wonder if everything you touch is equally as delicious.”

The heat in my cheeks deepened. It made me jealous of Riley’s sun-kissed skin, because then I could have at least excused the ruddy tinge on too much sun. Of course, now I imagined touching his skin, tasting it, and proving his theory correct. He would definitely be delicious.

"I'm gonna get started. Feel free to watch as much as you want. You know, to make sure you're getting your money's worth."

Heavy rains and strong winds slammed an uprooted tree through Steve Crowell’s roof, leaving a gaping hole to match the one in his heart. After his ex left him for a younger man, Steve’s not sure he’s ready to handle another disaster. His best friend highly recommended the contractor, but the man’s already late, and when he shows up with his music thumping, Steve isn’t impressed—until Riley steps out of his pickup truck. Personable, gorgeous Riley talks a mile a minute, which Steve finds both ridiculously endearing and terrifying. Piecing together a heart isn’t as easy as fixing a roof, but Riley might just be the right man for the job.

Katherine Halle is known as the “Queen of Happy Endings.” She firmly believes that no matter what the obstacles, what the struggles, or how much angst is involved in the journey, that the ending should always be a happy one.

Katherine’s love of the written word started at a very early age with repeated demands of “read to me” to any who would listen. It was only natural that writing would follow. As a child, she could often be found daydreaming, thinking up fanciful stories and writing them down. Now she does it on a laptop. Much faster.

Katherine’s favorite animal is her dog. She likes books, movies, and quirky television shows, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Hart of Dixie. She loves cooking and watching cooking shows. She has lived in both Europe and the United States and loved both. When she’s not writing or plotting,

Katherine enjoys spending her time listening to music, reading books written by other people, and being with her family.
