Please share a small smutty excerpt of Found Vampire.
“He bit me.”
Brantley turned to look at Mal, raising a brow at him. “Yeah? You want another round of bacon?”
Mal scowled. “Did you hear me?”
“Uh-huh. There’s milk, too.”
“Brantley, a vampire bit me, and I let him.”
The big asshole grabbed a pound of bacon and dumped it in a pan. “The corn-holing comes next, you know.”
Mal’s jaw dropped open. “What?”
“Butt-fucking,” Brant deadpanned. “Ass-banditry.”
“I’m going to kill you. You know that, right?”
“Fudge-packing? Hole-humping? Hiding the salami? Punching the starfish? Buggery?”
“Stop it!” Mal flapped his hands. “Ew! Jesus, Brantley. What do I do?” He’d wanted to play around with guys, but really, what chance had he ever had to do more than hand and maybe mouth stuff?
“Enjoy the ride.” When he squawked, Brantley waved a spatula at him. “What? You’re bonded. Paul says so. If you try to leave him, your wolf will bring you right back.”
“I have a life!”
“And I didn’t?” Brantley bared his teeth a little. “What do you want from me, man? It was hard as hell, but so worth it. So fucking worth it.”
“I don’t—” Panic set in a bit, his chest tight. It was one thing to fuck around, another to be bonded like Brant and unable to leave. “I’m not. Shit.”
“Sit. So don’t. I mean, maybe, it’s different for you two. How the fuck would I know?”
“Different. Tell me how it is for you?” He sat. He’d teased Brantley a lot but had never really listened about bonds and shit. Not really.
“It’s like…” Brantley frowned, chewed his lip. “At first, it was like being in a dream all the time, like I couldn’t focus. Now, it’s more like being so focused that everything is bigger.”
Wow. That sounded all esoteric and not at all helpful. “Can you be more specific?”
“What do you want to know?”
“How do you? I mean, you were all about playing the field.” Was that enough to go on?
“I was, but I need him.” Brantley’s cheeks were on fire, but he didn’t look ashamed. “I want it. He doesn’t have to force me.”
“Does it… When he bites you?” Mal cleared his throat. Fuck, he was an adult, and god knew, he’d done his share of play-by-play with the guys about women. “Does it make you come?”
“Fuck, yes. Over and over. I… Okay, this is just between you, me and the bedpost, but…I let him bite me down there.”
Mal’s eyes went wide, and he stared. “No shit?”
“Uh-huh. It’s… I’ve got no words.”
When he looked down, Mal realized he’d instinctively covered his crotch with his hands. “Ow.”
“Yeah. I don’t know what to tell you.”
Paul leaned against the doorframe. “Tell him about what, dabi?”
“Nothing,” Brant said easily. “Wolf bullshit.”
“Mmm. So you say. Good day, Mal.”
“Hey.” Mal always felt odd around the manu.
He had the sneaking suspicion Paul was doing something he couldn’t see or hear too, because Brantley’s cheeks were purple.
Found Vampire
Found Vampire is the sequel to Chosen Wolf. Brant's best friend Mal is on his way home from Paul and Brant's cabin, having snowmobiled up to see his friend. On the return trip, hears someone calling him, which is impossible over the motor noise. Impossible, but he finds the man calling to him, a nearly frozen vampire Mal can hear talking in his head.
Henri is an Acadian vampire who hears voices in his head. He knows he's crazy, but has no idea that bonding with a Guardian werewolf will help him, even as he forms a connection with Mal.
Both of them have reasons to fight the bond in the short term, but when it comes down to it, only Mal's discipline will save Henri from the voices, and from himself.

Author Spotlight - Jessica Coulter Smith
In the Author Spotlight today we have Jessica Coulter Smith with her new book Jennifer and the Alien Badass.
What is your favorite thing about Jennifer and the Alien Badass?
I love that even though she has a grown daughter, it’s not too late for her to find love. Jennifer has spent her life making her daughter a priority, but when an older sexy alien offers to claim her as his mate, she’s given a chance to live life for herself.
,
Black and white or all the colors of the rainbow?
All the colors of the rainbow 😊
This is the 15th book in your Intergalactic Bride series – what keeps the books fresh for you?
Each story is different. My characters are a range of ages and occupations. Some are single moms, or single dads. But one thing holds true for all of them…they want someone to love who will love them back. I’ve had a blast writing this series – from geeky aliens to the biggest badass of them all – and I hope I get to write many more.
Hard or soft?
Hard
What is your favorite time waster?
Facebook. Although, I’m not sure it’s so much a favorite, as I just get sucked in every time I’m on there. Sometimes it’s like a train wreck – you just can’t look away.
Weddings or warriors?
Warriors
How many warriors does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They command someone else to do it.
Who was harder to write – Jennifer or Siril?
I would have to say Siril. As a mom, I could easily relate to Jennifer. Siril is this big badass on his world, feared throughout the galaxies and a powerful warrior. But I couldn’t make him too hard, so there’s a softer, vulnerable side to him too. It was a balancing act.
Sunrise or sunset?
Sunset – because I’m NEVER awake for sunrise LOL
Abs or glutes?
Hmmm…I like both, so I’m not sure I could pick
Do you procrastinate more at the beginning, middle or end of the story, or not at all?
Generally at the middle. The beginning flies by, and once I’m nearing the end, I usually know exactly how I want things to go. But that pesky middle usually stumps me.
What's the sexiest food/meal?
Tiramisu
Can you share some sexy lines from Jennifer and the Alien Badass?
He leaned forward a little more and lowered his voice so no one else would hear. “What I’d like is to take you back to my hotel suite, rip every stitch of clothing from your body, except possibly for those sexy as fuck boots, and take you so hard and fast that your legs shake and you scream my name over and over. I want to worship every inch of your body, take you so many times you can’t walk tomorrow, and then I want to do it all over again. I want to erase every memory of every other male you’ve known, eradicate them one orgasm at a time, until you’re begging me to never stop.”

Jennifer Montgomery has never needed anyone in her life except her daughter. A single mom of a now eighteen year old, her entire life has revolved around Lila. But when Lila goes missing, Jennifer is devastated and determines to do whatever it takes to find her. She just never expected her search to lead her to the Terran Station and their bride program. Or to learn that her daughter isn't who Jennifer thought she was.
Siril, Captain of the Herack, is revered on his world for his tireless pursuit of the space pirates infesting the galaxy. The best of the best, as they say. If killing people were an art, he'd be da Vinci. But all the blood is starting to wear on him. There are only so many heads you can lop off before it grows old. At fifty, he's ready for a break, but when he agreed to a vacation on Earth, he never expected to meet his perfect match, someone he'd decided didn't exist. Who would ever want a battered and broken old warrior like him? But Jennifer is fierce, sexy as hell, and he wants to make her his.
As the two come together, and sparks become a blazing inferno, Jennifer realizes that maybe it's okay to live her life and do something completely selfish -- like fall in love.

“Should we set a course for home?” Haptir asked.
“Yes. Once you’ve finished disposing of the pirates. I don’t want their remains anywhere near Zelthrane-3.” Siril left them to their work and went to his quarters. The door had barely closed before he started removing his boots and pants. He turned on the cleansing unit and stepped under the spray. Scrubbing his body and hair twice, he leaned his head against the wall and wondered what life would be like without constant bloodshed. Not that a good battle wasn’t fun -- preferably on someone else’s ship so they had to deal with the cleanup.
Such things didn’t used to bother him, but the older he got, the less he liked the messy side of his work. Why couldn’t they die neatly? Was it really necessary for a decapitation to douse everything in blood? But what else was he to do? If he wasn’t beheading people, was he supposed to sit at home and die of boredom? He’d been asked to train their warriors full time, and it was an honorable position, but Siril wasn’t certain he was ready to hang up his blades just yet. There were many good fights left in him.
He shut off the unit and dried himself. He looked at his bed longingly, but there would be plenty of time to sleep once they reached home. They’d been after the pirates for days and he’d slept little. In his youth, he could have stayed awake for days on end without feeling the least bit tired. But now, as the oldest active warrior for their world, he was feeling every one of his fifty years. Donning clean clothes, he checked his boots before putting them back on, and went to the galley. He grabbed a Melranian star fruit and leaned against the counter. His crew could handle the cleanup and navigation necessary to get them back home. There was little for him to do.
Except think.
The council had often offered Siril time off over the last few years, encouraging him to take a trip to Earth and get off world without having to engage in battle. He’d always waved them off and gone right back to work, but maybe it was time to take a break. Even a week off might be nice. While Zelthrane-3 was more advanced than the humans’ Earth in many ways, the blue planet had a lot of marvels that interested him. Like music and movies. And while he’d heard there would be a place to dance opening soon in Terran Prime, it might be entertaining to see all of those things on Earth and explore the human world a bit. Providing he didn’t scare the puny humans.
When the bride program had first opened, they’d welcomed all humans to their world, including males who took temporary jobs on their planet to make the human females feel more at ease. But over time, only brides were allowed on Zelthrane-3, and the screening process had gotten stricter. The first few months of the program, there had been too many fights, as well as human females falling for the human males. Things were streamlined now, and from what he could tell the program was a huge success. He’d often thought of checking out the brides to find a mate of his own, but they all seemed so young. He wondered if the council only approved the young ones to guarantee children for the mated pairs. He didn’t know much about humans and wondered if the older females either couldn’t have children or if it would be too hard on their bodies. More than likely, he would spend his years alone.
“Captain,” Velic said over the system. “We’re about to enter warp drive and will be home shortly. It might get a little bumpy.”
Siril braced his feet and continued to eat his fruit as the ship vibrated around him. He wondered what sort of female would ever settle for someone like him. He’d been handsome once, but wars had ravaged his face and body. There were females out there who thrilled over being with a warrior such as he, but they were few and far between. And once the thrill was over, they left and he was alone once more. No one wanted to wake up next to him every day for the rest of their lives.
If he ever did claim a mate, he had a wonderful home for her. The council had provided him one of the best houses on his world. It was large, easily big enough for many children, and had a lush garden out back. He seldom saw it, spending most of his time on this ship trying to keep the galaxy safe. If he did take a mate, he supposed he’d have to spend more time at home. Was he ready to give up this way of life if it meant having a warm female to bed every night?
He wanted to say yes, but he wondered if he’d miss wreaking havoc and striking fear into the hearts of those around him. Just his name was enough to send most running in fear. He’d earned his reputation and was proud of it. Human females seemed fragile, though, and he doubted they would thrill over his many kills. He wanted a female every bit as fierce as he was, but he had yet to meet one. Someone who could take care of themselves if he had to leave on a mission. Worrying about a helpless, fragile mate would only get him killed. No, he needed a warrior. But in all his travels, he’d never met a female warrior. There were stories of some on far off worlds, but it was doubtful he’d ever meet one.
Who was he kidding? No one would ever want a mate like him. He was too damaged for someone to ever love him. But if he did have a mate, if a female ever took a chance on him, he’d shower her with love and affection and make sure she never wanted to leave.
When he was home, he watched the mated couples. Their females smiled at them with such affection, and grew round with their children. Not that he had the slightest idea of what to do with a child. He’d never held one for fear he might hurt them. They seemed so small and breakable. Part of him wanted children to experience the pleasure of having a family, but the thought of bringing a tiny baby into the world was frightening. And at his age, by the time he had grandchildren he might be too old to enjoy them. Gods! Grandchildren?
He shook his head at his folly. He wasn’t getting a mate and wasn’t having children, so it was a moot point. He’d do better to hone his battle strategies and mold the young warriors who needed a guiding hand. Leave populating the planet to the younger males. The greatest gift he could give his people was keeping them safe, either by his own hand or those he trained. With some luck, he’d die in battle and never have to live a lonely life once the council retired him.
The ship shuddered under his feet and groaned, telling him they’d touched down. Siril tossed the core of the star fruit and made his way through the ship to the docking port. His crew was already exiting as he made his way down to the ground below. There was no one to greet them, but there never was. All of his crew were single, and while some of them still had parents, they were very much on their own.
The suns shone brightly overhead, their warmth caressing his face. It was good to be home, another crisis averted. His people were safe and were none the wiser to the threat that had been hanging over their heads. If the pirates had managed to land, many lives would have been lost. He walked the streets, smiling at the children playing he passed along the way. This was why he spent so much time in space. So families could stay together, could live in peace, and those precious children would have a chance to grow up and maybe become warriors themselves one day.
The clinic loomed ahead and he hoped no one was waiting. He didn’t mind the wait, but the fewer people he had contact with the better, until he knew he hadn’t been contaminated. He stepped into the cool interior and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the waiting room was empty. Easing down onto a chair, he extended his bad leg to give his knee a break. Sometimes the metal of his prosthetic made the joints in his knee ache. Getting old was a bitch.
He looked around the interior of the clinic, noting the changes since he’d last been in. Some blocks were stacked in a corner for the children who had to visit. A few books with human females on the cover graced a few tables. What were those called? Magazines? He picked one up, curious as to the contents. As part of his extensive training, he’d learned to speak and read all of the languages of Earth and all of the surrounding planets in his galaxy. The magazine in his hand was in Earth English and had articles on losing weight, the best summer diets, and “the top ten reasons he doesn’t love you”.
Siril smiled and shook his head, amused by the things human females found entertaining. He’d much rather read a book on the latest weaponry. He flipped through a few more of the books, wondering why all of the females in them were so skinny. The females in the bride program came in all shapes and sizes. Why didn’t their magazines have fuller-figured women in them as well?
He tossed the book aside and stood, moving across to the door that led to the offices and exam rooms. He cracked it open and peered down the long hall. Light shone under one of the office doors and Siril decided to make his presence known. His boots were loud against the polished floor and must have alerted the doctor someone was in the building.
The office door opened and Vyrex stepped out.
“Siril, it’s good to see you. Another successful mission?” Vyrex asked.
“The mission went well, but my ship was covered in the blood of pirates. Some got on me as well. I wanted to make sure I hadn’t contracted anything.”
Vyrex motioned for him to follow and led Siril to an exam room. He scanned Siril head to toe, ran some blood tests, and gave him a few injections. As the doctor studied the results of the tests, Siril waited to find out if it was bad news or if he’d managed to come out unscathed once more. He figured that eventually his luck would run out. Yes, he’d lost some body parts along the way in his missions, but otherwise he was still very healthy.
“Everything looks fine,” Vyrex said. “The injections I gave you will help boost your immune system and should fight off any viruses if any present over the next few days. I wouldn’t worry unless you start feeling ill, then come back and see me. We’ll run more tests then.”
“I think I may go off world for a bit.”
“Earth?” Vyrex asked.
Siril nodded. “The council has offered to send me many times for a vacation. I think it’s time I took them up on their offer.”

Today she's a multi-published author of over seventy-five novellas and novels. Romance is an integral part of her world and spills over from her professional life into her personal one. When she went on that first date with her husband, she never expected to hear the words /Marry me!' pop out of his mouth - and judging by the shocked look on his face, he hadn't meant to say them either. But, being the hopeless romantic that she is, Jessica said yes and they've been married since 2000.
Jessica firmly believes that love will find you at the right time, even if Mr. Right is literally out of this world. She's often gazed at the stars and wondered what, or who, else might be out there. Who's to say that hunky model on the hottest romance bestseller isn't really from some far off galaxy? Maybe that blue Martian you saw at Halloween wasn't really in costume.

But, being the hopeless romantic that she is, Jessica said yes and they've been married since 2000.

Who's to say that hunky model on the hottest romance bestseller isn't really from some far off galaxy? Maybe that blue Martian you saw at Halloween wasn't really in costume. Guest Author - LM Sommerton - Tales from The Edge series blast!
Today I have LM Sommerton visiting the blog with a series blast.
New beginnings
There’s a line in a song by rock band The Editors, “Some things should be simple; even an end has a start”, which has resonated with me recently as I come to the end of a book series. Tales from The Edge consists of eight books and four free short stories and began almost four years ago with Reaching The Edge. The main characters, Olly and Joe, have inhabited my head ever since and letting go has proved anything but simple. I wish they were real – they’d make really good friends and I think a night out with them might be an adventure!
I didn’t want to write a never-ending series where readers forget what the whole premise was about and characters become formulaic caricatures. That’s boring for the reader and the writer. But, I never imagined how involved readers would become with the fictional lives of a group of kinky, loving men who overcome their problems with the help of friendship, perseverance and a healthy dose of snark.
Whilst writing Tales from The Edge, I frequently found myself accidentally creating characters with the potential for stories of their own, so I may have to indulge in a few more short freebies when the urge takes me! In the meantime, the final book in the series sows the seed for a new set of stories I’ll also be starting this year. So the end really is a start. Thanks so much for hosting me. xx
To celebrate the final book in the series, you can enter a Rafflecopter prize draw here. Five lucky winners will receive an ebook of their choice from my back list. (Draw open Jan 10 – Jan 31 2017)

The Edge is a training company with a difference. It’s weekend clients come for classes in bondage and domination, not team building and problem solving. The management, staff and customers of The Edge do not lead boring lives. In fact they have a habit of getting themselves into all kinds of trouble. Put dominant, possessive alpha males together with bratty, loveable submissives and sparks are bound to fly. Tales from The Edge are their stories.
Binding the Edges (Book #8 in the series)
Never let go of the one you love.
After recent traumatic events, Olly is finding it hard to get his head around what happened. While he tries to deal with a maelstrom of emotions, renovations at The Edge are in full flow, alongside preparations for tenth anniversary celebrations. Joe, his Dom, recognizes Olly’s delicate state of mind and does his best to reassure him. A trip to the New Forest with their friends, Aiden and Heath, helps the healing process.
Returning home, Olly and Aiden focus on preparations for the party. When Aiden is called away, Olly takes a walk to clear his head, keeping his eye on a brewing storm. To his horror, he discovers Mark Vickery, an old enemy, has landed on the island by boat and is out for revenge.
With Olly missing and the storm raging, Joe, Heath and Aiden set out on a rescue mission that unfolds in a way none of them expected. Can the storm wash away the past or will Olly and Joe’s future be destroyed by a twist of fate?
Excerpt from Binding the Edges
Olly tilted his head back to get a proper look at Joe’s face. Joe’s expression gave no indication of remorse or guilt, just his usual serene certainty that everything was under control. His control. He pressed a finger against Olly’s lips preventing him from forming them into a pout.
“Who knows what’s best for you, sweetheart?”
Olly ducked his head, escaping Joe’s finger. “You do, Sir.” In Olly’s mind, nothing was more certain. Joe only ever acted in Olly’s best interest, even to his own detriment. “But you don’t have to worry about me.”
“That’s for me to decide, Oliver. After everything you’ve been through recently I didn’t want you to be on your own.”
“Because you’re a psychologist and you were analyzing me?” Olly asked.
“No, because you needed a friend. I know what you’d do if you had too much time on your own to think. You’d mull over every detail of what happened and start to blame yourself, wish you’d handled things differently. Then you’d start worrying about all the what ifs with that creative imagination of yours, and end up having nightmares for weeks.”
“You know me too well, Sir.” Olly nuzzled against Joe’s chest, absorbing his warmth.
“I have better things to do with you in bed than watch you toss and turn in your sleep.”
“Yes, Sir.”
“So no sulking with Aiden. He’s a good friend.”
“The best. Now I understand why he didn’t run away when I interrogated him about what he and Heath got up to last night. I think you did me a favor, Sir.”
“That grin is far too wicked. I suspect you need to be punished.” “Ooh, yes please!”
“But you have packing to finish because we need to get on the road if we’re going to make it to Hampshire in time for dinner.”
“You’re no fun, Sir.” Olly was torn between wanting to play with Joe and his curiosity about their destination. He would also get to see Carey and Alistair. Maybe some of his other friends, too. “What do you want me to take?”
Joe gave him a curious glance. The press of Joe’s fingers under his chin tilted Olly’s head back. “This isn’t like you. Usually you’d have two enormous suitcases stuffed to bursting by now. What’s going on?”
“Sorry, Sir.” Tears that seemed to come all too quickly stung Olly’s eyes.
“Hey, now. None of that.” Joe kissed away a tear. “Are you having a tough time making decisions at the moment?”
Olly nodded. He worried that if he spoke he’d have a full-on nuclear meltdown. “Well, it’s a good job you have me, isn’t it?”
Olly bobbed his head, feeling a bit like a nodding dog toy. His head felt too heavy for his neck and a wave of exhaustion washed over him. He wanted to grab a pillow, one that smelled of Joe, hug it tight and drift off to sleep.

Author Spotlight - Leona Windwalker
In the Author Spotlight today is Leona Windwalker, answering a baker's dozen questions and sharing her book Accused with us.
1. Accused is Sci-Fi - is that your preferred genre to write in?
I do love a good sci fi. It's probably my favourite genre to read, followed by fantasy/paranormal themed stories, but is it my favourite to write? That's a tough question to answer. The reason is probably going to sound a bit odd. You see, my writing process is not what most would assume. First off, I don't consciously decide to write a story and then figure out the opening scene and go from there. What happens instead is the very beginning of a book suddenly whispers to me. I mean that quite literally, the exact words, dialogue and all. I have to run to go get them down. Afterwards, when I sit to write, I just open my document, reread the last several paragraphs, and then put my fingers to the keyboard. It all simply comes out, until the words run dry. I myself don't know what happens next consciously, until I've written it. Kind of the ultimate pantser method, right? So, I can't say if it is my favourite to write, because well, they actually write themselves pretty much. I can say I enjoy reading the story as it appears, though, and as sci fi is my favourite genre, I suppose writing it must be too.
2. Sunrise or sunset?
Sunset, especially over water.
3. How many Talani does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Well, if they are on a space station, it'd take one to take the report that a replacement lightbulb was needed. Then it would take a supply officer to authorize the issuing of said bulb. Then it'd take a clerk to verify a lightbulb was indeed in stock, and let Engineering know the part was available and that there was a work order for a light bulb replacement. It'd take a chief engineer to read the work order and assign a tech and a non-Talani Volunteer to go tend to the matter. Another clerk to issue the tech the light bulb. Finally, the tech would go the designated level, and check that the bulb wasn't out due to a technical fault that needed repair before installing said bulb. If it's fine to install the bulb, he has the non-Talani Volunteer hold the ladder while he replaces the bulb. So, in total, six, at minimum.
4. What's your favorite timewaster?
My opening the Sims is a sure-fire way for the entire day to disappear. That and a good anime series.
5. Black and white or all the colors of the rainbow?
Black and white.
6. How long did it take you to write your first draft of Accused?
Three months.
7. What Sci-Fi writer has influenced you the most?
Oh man... I'd have to say Heinlein, Asimov, C.J. Cherryh, David Gerrold, D.C. Fontana, Andre Norton, and Anne MacCaffrey really had a strong impact on my reading habits. Hopefully some of their mojo has instilled itself.
8. What's your writing space like?
I write primarily in two places at home. One is propped up in my bed. The second is downstairs in the living room, in my Poang with my favourite fleece blanket. Whichever of the two places I am at, I have a table next to me, with coffee, snacks, and at least one cat plus our dog with me. I'll also usually have on my headphones and be listening to music while I do my automatic writing schtick on my Macbook.
9. Is there smut in your book and do you enjoy writing it?
Haha, yes, this book gets rather kinky actually. Do I enjoy writing it? ::giggle:: yes, but I'm always shocked when I look at what I wrote in that regard. Especially this time, as I've not ever written anything near that kinky and explicit before.
10. Beach or snowy mountain top?
Beach. Definitely the beach, and it should be a sandy one.
11. Did you make a new year's resolution this year?
No. I never make those.
12. What is your favorite thing about Accused?
I think what I enjoyed most about Accused is watching Matty come to grips with being thrust into an alien environment. Sure, he knew the aliens existed, but they were either on TV or at the Embassy, so sort of a vague notion of them being real in any personally meaningful way. He gets quite the rude awakening, with everything from the law to new foods, to coming to grips with alien cultures and even biological surprises he encounters.
13. Can you share a tantalizing few lines from Accused?
I certainly can. Here you go:
Blurb:
Matthias Reynolds loves his life. He's starting to make it as a graphic artist at last and has a job he really likes at a local café that pays the bills. When a night out clubbing leads to an awkward morning after, he's embarrassed and more than ready to forget all about it. When Talani Enforcers show up at the café, he doesn't know what to make of it all as he's led away in restraints.
Standing accused of crimes he struggles to understand, he finds he has an unexpected champion: the Talani warrior and war hero J'nah Quislin. J'nah knows that Matty is his. All J'nah has to do is keep Matty safe from those who engineered Matty's charges and sentencing. That, and get Matty to accept that universe always intended them to be together as one. All it requires is for Matty to return J'nah's devotion and offer his willing submission. Can Matty do it, with all that it will mean for his future?

Leona is a longtime staunch supporter of human rights and environmental causes. Her favourite genre to read is M/M fiction and she particularly enjoys science fiction, fantasy, and action/suspense sub-genres—especially if they have a nice seasoning of romance. She has far too many books on her Kindle, has overloaded her phone with even more and, when not reading, writing, being driven to distraction by her children, or being overlorded by her three cats, can be found trying to locate the portal that the sock monster uses to steal socks from her dryer.
Recent head-reeling news for her included her novel Jared:Urban Wolves #1 being nominated for an Indie Award from Metamorph and placing as a finalist in the 2016 Rainbow Awards, earning an Honorable Mention. She's still suspicious that it's all been a dream, but as long as her readers are happy and she can find at least one of the missing socks, she's happy.

You’ll find her books on Amazon (universal link is http://author.to/LeonaWindwalker), including on Kindle Unlimited. You’ll also find her on Facebook at Leona Windwalker, where you can keep up on news regarding current, new, and upcoming releases.

Author Spotlight Tuesday - Brynn Stein
Today I've got Brynn Stein in the author spotlight!
This is the eighth stop on my blog tour.
I’m having such fun, as I always do on these tours, talking about various
aspects of writing, and getting to know all of you. Thanks so much for
following the tour. If this is your first stop, feel free to go back and
comment on previous stops to be entered to win one of five prizes. More about
that later.
Thanks so much for having me on your blog
today, Sean. Your interview questions were such fun.
You write a variety of genres, from YA to M/M, do you have a
favorite?
M/M usually, but this story just
came to me. There’s no sex, but there is tenderness, and watching the boys
learn who they are with each other was rewarding. Russ grew from a
self-centered delinquent to a young man who would do anything for CJ. And CJ
felt safe enough with Russ to let his insecure side show. Around everyone else,
he was always bright-eyed and bubbly. With Russ, he could show every side of
himself. He didn’t have to put on a brave front, and he could let Russ help.
How is writing YA different than a book aimed at an adult
audience?
Actually not that much. I didn’t
write down to the reader or anything. This book still explores all the same
themes as my other ones do: religion vs faith, homophobic reactions and
reactions to homophobes, love and personal growth through both good times and
bad. In fact this book deals with very young people dealing with death. The
only thing different about this from my other books is that the characters are
so young. Usually my characters are at least in their twenties, more often in
their thirties (or beyond, in the case of Through
the Years). And of course, the obvious difference, there’s no sex in this
one. I don’t do hard core sex scenes in my other books either, though. Sexy
scenes but not detailed descriptions. So yeah, this is even less sex than I
normally do, but I hope I make up for it in love.
Sunrise or sunset?
It used to be sunset all the way. I
was definitely not a sunrise person, with a few exceptions. But I’m sort of
turning around in recent years and getting up earlier and earlier. I still
don’t plan to get up for sunsets, but with the way my bedroom windows are aimed
right into the rising sun, it’s kind of hard not to.
Black and white or all the colors of the rainbow?
The more color the better.
What is your favorite thing about Ray of Sunlight?
It came so easily. It practically
wrote itself. I was driving an hour to visit a friend and just about thought
the whole thing out. The problem was that I was in the middle of another book
at the time. But I dropped everything and wrote this one. It hardly took any
time at all. That is rare.
Do you write a lot of 1st person POV books and is it harder
or easier for you to write than 3rd person POV?
So far, I’m split half and half. Haunted and Living Again are in third person. Through the Years and Ray of
Sunlight are in first. Even the two under contract split down the middle. For Mac is in third person and What No One Else Can Hear is in first.
I’ve never really thought of one
being easier than the other, unless I try to force it. I never consciously
choose the POV, it just comes to me in one or the other. I’ve tried to force a
third person into first and vice versa and that doesn’t work at all. As long as
I don’t do that, I find them equally easy or equally difficult…depending on
which day you ask.
What is your favorite time waster?
Reading… or Facebook, but I’m
reading on Facebook, so that sort of counts, right?
Winter or summer?
Summer, all the way.
Did you have to do a lot of research for the book?
For this particular one, I didn’t
have to. Russ is very similar to a lot of my current students. I work at a
special education school for kids who have severe behavior problems. They’ve
often been in and out of juvenile detention, so I’m often in court for them and
know their legal background even if I didn’t actually attend that particular
hearing. They tend to blame everyone else but themselves, like Russ does at the
beginning, and I’ve even seen some of them grow as much as Russ does over the
course of the story.
Back when my own kids were younger,
I was a homebound teacher so I could have a more flexible schedule. One of my
students back then had the same kind of cancer that CJ has. She was in and out
of the Children’s Hospital and I had close contact with the educator at the
hospital and witnessed firsthand how badly the treatments could affect her.
I’ve also had numerous other people in my life affected by cancer.
I did still research, just because I
love to research. And for other books I’ve hit Google a LOT. But a lot of this
one came from life experiences.
Who was harder to write, Russ or CJ?
Neither were particularly hard, but
Russ probably came a little more easily. I have a lot of living models for his
personality for the first part of the book.
Do you procrastinate at the beginning, middle, end of the
story or not at all?
It depends on the book. For this
one, I didn’t procrastinate at all. Haunted
wrote itself so I didn’t procrastinate with that one. For Through the Years come rapidly until the middle then I
procrastinated a little. Living Again,
I procrastinated at the end a little bit. For For Mac, I procrastinated just about everywhere. What No One else Can Hear, at the end
again, and the one I’m writing now, I’m procrastinating at the beginning.
What's the most interesting food to share on a first date?
Depends on what you mean by
interesting. There are foods I avoid for a first date. Things like spaghetti,
fried chicken, sloppy joes. I’m not comfortable enough with a first date to
make a mess in front of them. I also avoid crab legs on a first date. Those
things can be damned seductive if you want them to be, and sometimes even if
you’re not trying. ‘Dangerous’ on a first date. <G>
Can you share some tender lines from Ray of Sunlight?
This is a part of a scene after CJ
collapses on a rare outing outside the hospital:
WHEN WE got to the hospital, CJ was already
back in a room in the emergency ward. He
was awake and beautiful, and Pete had been right. CJ’s blood sugar had just
bottomed out. Once they had treated that, he woke up and was doing okay, though
he was still very weak. He smiled feebly when I walked in. It almost reached
his eyes… but not quite. “Don’t you ever scare me like that again,” I scolded
but immediately regretted it when the smile fell off his face. “I can’t promise
that, Russ.” His eyes looked sad. I gathered him up in my arms, as best I could
with the IV and such attached to him as he lay in that darned hospital bed. “I
know,” I cooed against his bald head. “I know… just….” I didn’t know what else
to say. I didn’t even know how I had meant to finish that sentence, but all
thoughts I may have had just left as I simply enjoyed having him in my arms
again. “I love you, CJ.” That seemed to have been the right thing to say as he
returned the sentiment and just snuggled in even closer to me.
What
about all of you? Writers, do you write a mixture of young adult and m/m or
just one or the other? Readers, do you read a combination of both or do you
have to have a certain heat level to your books? Comment below for a chance to
win.
So here’s how the giveaway will work. Visit
as many sites as you want, as often as you want. Each comment will enter you to
win one of the following prizes: 1st) An autographed paperback copy
of Ray of Sunlight, 2nd)
An electronic copy of Ray of Sunlight,
3rd) Your choice of audio or electronic copy of Living Again, 4th) An electronic copy of Through the Years, and 5th)
an electronic copy of Haunted. The
takeovers for Harmony Ink’s blog and Facebook page will be part of the tour, so
comments on there will count. I will draw the winners during the FB takeover
and will announce them then, but will come back and announce it to all the
sites too. So, you don’t have to leave your email if you don’t want to, just
remember to check back. You’re also welcome to leave your email in the comments
if you’d rather or email me at brynnstein2@gmail.com
with the subject heading of “just in case”, so I can contact you if you win, if
you don’t want to have to stop back by the blog sites. You don’t have to be
present at the FB takeover to win.
Thanks for playing.

Ray of Sunlight
Russ Michaels has his whole life ahead of him but no plans
beyond dropping out of school as soon as he turns eighteen. He’s been in and
out of juvenile detention for the last four years and thoroughly expects to end
up in an adult penitentiary at some point. He hates life and everyone in it,
especially this latest community service that he earned in lieu of juvie yet
again.
CJ Calhoun has big plans. He wants to bring joy and happiness to sick and injured children for as long as he can by performing as a clown. The problem is, he has stage-four cancer and a horrible prognosis.
When circumstances throw these two polar opposites together, they find they have more in common than they imagined. CJ discovers Russ’s talent for art and arranges for Russ to create a mural in the hospital foyer, which leads to a tentative scholarship to the Art Institute. As life changes in ways neither of them could have expected, Russ must work harder than ever to better himself as CJ struggles with his deteriorating health.

Brynn Stein
Brynn Stein has
always loved to write. Fan fiction, original fiction, whatever. While Brynn
wrote in numerous genres—everything from mystery, to contemporary, to
supernatural—she had always tended toward strong male characters. And then she
discovered “slash,” male/male romance, and all those strong male characters
were finally allowed to express their love for one another. It seems that there
are always at least two characters clamoring to tell Brynn their story.
Brynn lives in Virginia near her two grown daughters who encourage her writing and provide a sounding board for fledgling stories. When she isn’t writing, Brynn teaches children with special needs. In free time, when such a thing exists, she reads anything she can get her hands on, and haunts bookstores. She draws and paints, and enjoys the outdoors—especially if she can get to the beach—and is always thinking about her next story.
