I lived in Montreal from 1967 - 1990 and from 9th grade on, my summers were taken up by the Montreal Expos. I would cut clippings out of the paper, I would listen to the games on the radio and keep stats. I had favorite players (Tim Wallach, Andre Dawson, Gary Carter to name a few) and I would take the metro to the Big O and spend a dollar for bleacher seats to cheer them on. Every now and then I would get very lucky and my best friend's father, who was a stockbroker at the time, would get amazing seats from clients. Like third row, behind the Expos' dugout and he would bring us with him.
While I no longer lived in Montreal by 2004, I was still sad to see the team leave the city.
I might still have my stuffed Youppi in a box somewhere... (yes, the mascot was this big orange furry guy called Youppi - which is french for hooray)

Movie Tuesday
Saw two movies this week. One on Shomi - Aftershock, and one was 'rented' through Rogers - Victor Frankenstein.
Aftershock was sort of a horror movie - filmed and produced in Chile. And it was slow to get to the disaster/horror part, but that was okay because there was something fascinating about this Chilean concert promoter, his best friend and their 'gringo' friend. They met up with some chicks and wound up travelling with them. It was all very odd but not in a bad way.
Then the earthquake happened (just over halfway through the movie) and things went to hell (for the characters). I think it was very realistic the way they had people reacting in the club to the earthquake itself, and to the people being hurt. From there it got worse, a tsunami warning, escaped prisoners, rape, murder, escaping through tunnels beneath the church only to be taken out by the tsunami - one by one everyone of the original six died. All in all, not a terrible movie.
Then I watched Victor Frankenstein, which is only a couple of years old. Why had I never seen any previews for this movie? It was a neat take on the Frankenstein story. The acting was superb, the cinematography beautiful and the story line interesting. It was very... lush and that contrasted well with the parts that weren't. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil anyone who might want to see it. I totally enjoyed it.
I'm feeling like a movie again tonight. So I'll have to poke around and see what all is available and what I'm in the mood for.
Happy Tuesday!

My God It's Monday
It's still Monday if I haven't gone to bed yet, right? Even though it's after midnight? Yes, yes, it is ;)
A nice day today. Weather was decent. I got an edit turned around. Got another reprint ready for formatting. Hopefully I'll get it (Blue Collar) out before the weekend.
Got lots of writing done, too. Got deadlines to meet.
So it's been a productive day. Yay.
But it's late, so this is short today.
Have a great week!

Contest Winner and New Contest for week of June 6
Congratulations to Jen W, winner of a print copy of Windbrothers: Desert. You can buy Windbrothers: Desert in either ebook or paperback at DSP Publications.
This week's contest is for Amnesia, currently available for pre-order, coming out June 13. Send me an email with "I forget" in the subject line to seanmichaelwrites @ gmail . com (without the spaces) before Saturday June 11. I'll randomly choose two winners on Saturday morning - one to get the ebook and another to get the print book. This is a reprint - thank you to Dreamspinner for re-publishing it!
Amnesia
Who wouldn’t want a do over?
When Thaine wakes up in the hospital after a bull-riding injury, he immediately asks for his lover, Jerry. He has no idea who this man next to his bed is, despite the fact Drew insists they have been an item for the last five years.
Thaine’s best friend, Jesse, calls Jerry. He thinks it’s a pretty crappy thing to do to the new boyfriend, but tells himself it’s unlikely Jerry will come after so many years. He also doesn’t get why Thaine would pass up the opportunity to be with Drew since he’s young, optimistic, and hardworking. In short, everything Jesse ever wanted in a man.
Jerry still carries a torch for his cowboy, so when Thaine asks to go home with him to recover, Jerry agrees. At first they pick up their intense physical relationship right where they left it before the breakup. Jesse, in turn, consoles the now homeless Drew and offers him quite a bit more than a shoulder to cry on. But in the back of all the men’s minds loom Thaine’s lost five years.

Suddenly Sunday
Boom, the weekend is almost over and I'm not sure where it went. I got a lot accomplished -- wound up running around both yesterday and today more than I'd originally planned, but I'm hoping to spend most of the coming week, holed up in the house writing madly. Books, blog posts, all the stuff that needs writing.
And on the subject of 'boom' where the heck did May go and how are we already at the fifth of June? I swear there are some times when I look at how fast time goes and it makes me catch my breath.
Today is a grey day. It rained all morning, which we totally needed. The grass had tons of brown patches, which usually only happens near the end of August. I must admit that it has been nice not to have the humidity, and today is all about the humidity, but we do need the water if we don't want produce to cost a fortune later this summer.
Went to the market in the pouring rain -- not very busy. It did mean I didn't have to wait anywhere, but damn, it's not good for sales and I felt bad for the vendors who get to stand around all day in the bad weather and not have much to show for it. I tell you what, though. The first strawberries of the year have arrived! One farm had them and I grabbed a pint. God, so good. The ones we get imported are tasteless compared to the homegrown ones. Even the ones that weren't anywhere near as ripe as they could have been tasted so much better than the pretty but flavorless ones that come in from elsewhere. It should be good pickings until mid-July and then a few of the farms should have the ones that will go right until September. I do love me some strawberries. Maybe I'll go picking this year and get some of them and some raspberries and make jam. We'll see if time cooperates or not!
I've got an edit to finish before I can call it a day today - so I'd better get back to that.
I hope everyone had a good weekend,
Sean

Random Friday
I think that light at the end of the tunnel was actually a train... Ah well, I knew that I wouldn't be feeling almost caught up for long. C'est la vie.
This weekend, I have blogposts to do, I have edits to go through, and I have to clean.... I also have stories to write so yay! Aside from a bit of shopping as well, this will be my weekend.
Next weekend on the other hand, I am going to something called DessertFest. That's right, I said DessertFest. That should round out my year of food events nicely. It started with Baconpalooza, then there was the Mac'nCheese Festival, the Poutine Festtival and now DessertFest. DessertFest. DessertFest. I just can't say it enough because it amuses me almost as much as Baconpalooza did.
Weather has been middling the last couple of days. Tuesday was stunningly beautiful with not too high temps and a lovely breeze. One of those days where the weather just makes you happy. The last few days have had cool mornings, warming up to hot but not dreadful days. If I can open the windows in the morning and only have to put the A/C on in the afternoon/evening it makes for a much happier me. I'm so glad the more like mid-July weather only lasted a few days. Maybe July will be nicer to me than usual. It's a nice dream, anyway ;)
I took a bunch of stuff to be mailed out yesterday, get in line, wait, have my turn, and the package on the top of the pile has no address on it. How do I do that? So I will have to return to the post office today or tomorrow... probably tomorrow. I have another package to mail out and am feeling too lazy to put it together right now.
I have a beef tongue cooking on the stove. I do love me some tongue and now that the market is open again, I can go down and hit up the meat farmers for it. I like beef the best, but the pork tongue isn't bad. Actually, I should ask the elk lady if she ever has it available, as well as the buffalo and venison guy. It would be interesting to try different ones. I'll also be picking up some fresh cheese from the sheep farmer and some fresh free run eggs from the egg guy. I'm hoping someone will have some rhubarb, too, because my patch needs does not have enough ready in its second picking yet to actually have enough for a dessert.
That is my weird foods for the day. Funny, I love both of them thanks to my father. We had them growing up. Organ meats and tongue used to be very cheap and we had them at least once a week. I liked tongue week, I was not at all fond of liver, heart or kidney, with the heart being my least favorite. And rhubarb was always in the form of either crisp or pie (open face, my grandmother never put lids on her pies). I like crisp best, but love the pie as well and of course I'm now experimenting with different recipes - rhubarb coffee cake, rhubarb muffins, rhubarb bread. I just found a recipe for rhubarb tartatin that I can't wait to try.
There's still more than a day left in the contest for a print copy of Windbrothers: Desert - check out the contest details here.
Now, I'm planning to do a smutterday post tomorrow, but I was planning to do one last week too and you can see how that turned out, or didn't turn out as the case may be.
So have a great weekend!

Contest Winners and New Contest
I fell behind on picking winners on two contests running here on the blog. Winners have been contacted by email and they are:
Winner for the Hop for Visibility, Awareness, and Equality is Debra.
Winner for the Between Friends contest is Sabrina!
Congratulations to you both!
The new contest is for a print copy of Windbrothers: Desert. Just send me an email to seanmichaelwrites @ gmail . com (without the spaces) with Desert in the subject line and I will randomly pull a winner on Sunday morning. I will mail books overseas, so no worries if you live outside of North America.
